Sit-in - a form of civil disobedience in which demonstrators occupy seats and refuse to move, first employed by Mahatma Gandhi in Indian independence movement and were later expanded on by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and others during the American Civil Rights Movement
Sputnik - an artificial satellite- launched by the Soviet Union demonstrating its ability to built more powerful rockets than the USA
Summer of love - a phrase given to the summer of 1967 to try to describe (personify) the feeling of being in San Francisco that summer, when the hippie movement came to full fruition

Teach-in - a method of non-violent protest against the U.S. government's involvement in Vietnam; an extended session of lecture on an important and usually controversial issue
Tet Offensive - the large “general offensive” launced by the Viet Cong
Traditional poetry - the poet uses established forms and diction, and writes with a readily recognizable craft, often using rhyme or a set metrical pattern
Trompes l’oeil - tricks that fool the eye, i.e. optical illusions (in Op Art)

Vietnam Veterans Against the War - a national veterans' organization that campaigns for peace, justice, and the rights of all United States military veterans

Women’s Liberation - the movement launched in the 1960s to create a greater equality between women and men; the feminists sought equal opportunities in the work place and in schools, called for equal pay and promotion opportunities at work, and sought the expansion of day-care programs in the work place
